Colorado: Week 2

What a snowy week it was here in Colorado!

We woke up to snow 3 days this week. The last bit was on Friday and it was a good 8 inches. Wow! We had no idea what we were in for when we signed up for this contract.

The cold has gotten better though. The lows are only in the upper 30’s now and the daily temps are 40-50’s. It feels like Spring!

Steve and I discovered the Clear Creek Greenway and have been taking walks pretty regular on it. It’s about 2 miles long and goes by Bridal Veil Falls.

When we went for a walk on Thursday evening we were greeted by a lovely red fox on the path. It was beautiful!

Steve has settled into his job. He is doing both Hospice and Home Health nursing, so he has a steep learning curve as he has never done home health before. He is working independently now and we are settling into a routine again.

Last Sunday we ventured down to Denver and enjoyed hearing Jay Pathak speak at the Arivada Vineyard. Our son joined us and we went for lunch at an Indian Restaurant. It was soooo good.

This week we had 2 days with no internet. The tower was down for some reason, so I got to read 3/4 of a book I’ve been working on. When you don’t have internet or cell phone connection for a couple of days you realize how much you rely on it! I found myself wondering simple things, like what the temperature was outside, and having no way to know.

Even the Bible I read out of in the morning on my IPAD is connected to the internet. We made some adjustments and I downloaded some things so the next time it is out we are more prepared.

In my readings of Proverbs this week I came across the verse in Proverbs 25:15. It says in the Message translation “Patient persistence pierces through indifference.”

I have been thinking a lot about the first part of that phrase – “patient persistence pierces.”

Being surrounded by nature is giving fuel to those thoughts. The stream outside my door is patiently persistent and can shape the rocks that are in its path.

The trees are patiently persistent and grow and reproduce so slowly you can’t see it, but it is happening.

The birds that sit on the tree branches are patiently persistent in scouting for their next meal.

Today there was a little bird I’ve never seen before. It was in the stream, on such a cold and snowy morning! It would drop below the water and swim and then come up and stand on a rock, and then repeat the process. I presume it was gathering bits of algae or small creatures as it’s lunch. It was patiently persistent in its pursuit.

All of these (and more) have me thinking about our dreams and goals and how we need to be patiently persistent piercing through the indifference that the world holds up. In particular for me is writing these books that I have in my heart and seeing them come into the hands of actual people.

Patient persistence pierce through indifference.

We had a fun ending to our week hanging out and hiking with our niece and her friend, along with Jeremiah in Boulder. Hope you have a wonderful week!

Blessings!
