How to Make Scary Big Leaps

Tucson… Round Two – Week One

Hey there friends!

It sure seems like a long time since I have sat down to blog about our experiences.  I hope you have been able to see some highlights on instagram.  If not, check out our page- steveandchrissydotcom on instagram.

Well since we last chatted I have been back to Prescott and tackled a mountain of a project.

This image totally describes how I felt.

Getting our home ready for the market had a lot of “to do’s”!

The monsoons made the yard a tropical paradise on the outside and the inside needed a good scrubbing and of course the cleaning out of all our stuff.

We rented a 10×10 storage unit and asked ourselves “does this spark joy in me” over and over again.  If it did it went in the storage unit…if it did not it went to trash or donation.

We did sell a few of our possessions, but honestly the aggravation wasn’t really worth the pay.

I came back with my daughter Corrin and son-in-law Josh and together with Ben we worked on the outside of the home.  We pulled weeds, trimmed bushes, gathered garbage for the dump and spread new rocks.  Later Steve and I painted some things outside to  make it fresh.

Corrin, Josh and Ben all left for their homes and Steve arrived the following week.

Together he and I moved all the furniture, took 3 runs to the dump, and around a dozen runs to resale shops in the area to donate items.

Finally all was ready for the realtor. Our home is on the market now, please pray for favor.

We loved living in this house and hope that it will make a wonderful home for a new family.

Once the house was finished Steve and I hit the road in Airy.

We visited Dead Horse Ranch State Park for a few days and then went on to Fools Hollow State Park in Show Low for another couple days.

We made our way back down to Tucson in time for Steve to start back at his Hospice job Monday.  We are in a different location in Tucson this time and so far we like it. There are folks who live here year round and I have been told lots of folks will be coming in next month for the winter.

We will be here until Thanksgiving.  After that…it is yet unwritten…

A Home for Felipe

Speaking of writing, I have included a link to a book that is dear to my heart.

If you went on the Baja Build with Steve and me a couple of years ago things might seem familiar to you!

The book is called A Home For Felipe and it is based on that experience. Hope you enjoy, and please feel free to share feedback with me.

Making The Leap

I was thinking about how all of this transition is affecting me emotionally.

It was super hard to pack up my stuff (what I kept of it) and then say goodby to my home.  It was even harder to realize that my friends in Prescott are not going to be actively in my life anymore…sharing struggles and victories and just day to day stuff.  It’s been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for sure.

I came across an image that spoke to me. A college friend of mine had shared it and I will share it here (credit to Bro. Marin M. Miriti). It speaks to what is going on inside of me better than I could articulate myself.

There’s one thing I LOVE about this image…

It’s not the fact that this mountain goat is about to make a massive leap, that if done wrong, could alter the rest of his life…

It’s not the fact that he even had enough faith to do so!

What I do love is this…

His eyes are focused on one thing only – his final destination.

He’s not looking down wondering if he’s going to fall to his death.

He’s not looking behind him regretting the decision he made, wondering what would happen if he took a different route to his final destination.

His focus is on one thing only – the other side.

Often times in life, we finally get the courage to make a big leap (whatever that may look like).

Then hours, days, weeks, or even months later, find ourselves looking down…

Looking behind…

Or even looking beside…

Second guessing our decision and wanting to retreat back to the point of our departure.

If you have decided to make a leap in your life, here’s your reminder to keep your head forward and your focus ahead – despite what you may be dealing with in the present.

It will be worth it in the end.

“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” – Proverbs 4:25

I look forward to keeping you all updated throughout the next weeks we are in Tucson.

Be blessed.

If you are in the midst of taking a big leap, let us know in a comment and we’ll be happy to pray for you.

  1. Hi Crissy,

The first photo speaks to me also. This was me in April. A lot has happened since then. Got knocked down a couple of times, but said, “God is bigger then my storm!” “I choose Life!” And finally, “I’m following the Good Shepherd!”

Thank you for that second photo. It gives a very good description of your life right now. But I think the scripture verse does more for me at this time in the storm we are in. I need to just keep I eyes forward on the Good Shepherd I am following. Prefect! He has never failed me yet.

    Love you both, Diana

  2. Hi Diana, know that Steve and I are praying for you during this difficult season. You said it best “I need to just keep my eyes forward on the Good Shepherd I am following…He has never failed me yet.” Much love to you! Chrissy

  3. I just resigned from my position. It was a welcome relief, but I am a little anxious about what is to come. I am also battling my physical health and helping my aging parent adjust to her new life. Would you please keep me in your prayers? I am feeling a little lost at the moment.
By the way, I love the emails I get every Sunday. They help me a lot. Please don’t stop.
