To Tombstone for Helldorado

Tucson Round Two… Week Six

We are in the sixth week of this 10 week contract.

Tucson is treating us quite well. The cooler temps are so refreshing and we have even turned on the heat in our Airstream a few times.

We are spending time on the weekends exploring the southern area and have looked at a couple of properties. We will keep you posted on if we decide to pursue something here or not.

We would like to purchase a property to keep our residency here in Arizona. That will keep Steve legit in his housing allowance perks as a travel nurse. It would also give us a place to land in between contracts. Also, we need a physical address in Arizona for things like our driver license, car registrations, etc.

We seriously considered keeping our property in Prescott Valley for these purposes, but are hoping by selling we will have a lower mortgage payment.

It has been fun driving around and seeing the beauty that is southern Arizona. We’ve spent time in Tombstone, Willcox, Bisbee, Pearce, Hereford, and Sierra Vista.

Last weekend we headed out to Tombstone.

Unknowingly to us it was Helldorado weekend and we stumbled upon huge crowds and a lively parade. We enjoyed watching the parade and wandering around Tombstone for a bit.

Then we headed down a dirt road that was recommended to us by a local. We were on our way to Pearce, AZ. The road was 12 or so miles long, fun, twisty and went through some mountains.

Absolutely beautiful country!

Once we got into Pearce we did a short hike at Cochise Stronghold. The hike was straight up! We went about 1/2 a mile and then turned around and came back down. It was slow going because of the steepness. There was another group on the path that had someone guiding them and he knew lots of off trail spots. Steve and I checked some out and found some caves and drawings that appeared to be petroglyphs. That was fun.

After the hike we drove back down the dirt road and back through some washes with water in them. The Jeep did great! I was a little nervous crossing the water, but the Jeep did it no problem.

We looked at a house in Pearce that we liked, but it had been vacant a while and seemed to have a musty smell.

Water is a BIG deal in this area and the well for the house is a shared one. While reports say the water levels in the well were good, the pump wasn’t performing real well for multiple homes. So we decided to pass for now.

We headed back towards Tucson to the most stunning sunset.

Our house in Prescott Valley is still under contract and the insurance company has put a new roof on it. Since this was the major request of our buyer we are thinking that we will close this week as scheduled.

Having the house sold will be a big relief for Steve and I as the entire process has been stressful.

While it is sad to not own a home in the Prescott area, we will be back to visit and will want to see all of the beloved friends we made while we were there.

Prescott is a delightful place to have lived and we cherish the beauty of both the landscapes and the people.
