Travel Week: CO to MO

We have arrived in MO and are getting settled in.

Last Sunday we spent the night in Kansas at a Thrasher Museum. It was a pretty cool place with lots of different buildings highlighting different equipment and things from the past.

We took a walk through town  and found a cute park that we walked around. The fields were brimming with crops and  it was just beautiful. The Thrasher Museum was a Harvest Host location and had a lot for RV’s. There was another couple staying the night as well.

Steve and I played frisbee and sat outside til dusk. After getting settled in for the night a terrible storm rose up. The rain, hail, lightening, thunder, wind was incredible. I seriously thought we might be in a tornado! Our Airstream (Airy) was rocking and bouncing around like we were driving down a bumpy road, but she stayed grounded. After about an hour and a half, the storm died down to just a soothing patter of raindrops.

Monday brought us further into Kansas and we stopped at the mid point of the lower 48 states. That was pretty cool. We got out and walked around and there was a little chapel that we visited.

Then onward we drove to our next stopping point. This was Mulberry Pond farm. In the fall it has a corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, petting farm, etc.

As it’s the off season we got to stay and enjoy their beautiful pond, explore their 15 acres, and just enjoy the beginnings of their labors for the fall. It was very relaxing there.

Tuesday brought us into Missouri and we drove until we reached our new campground – home for the next 2 months.

It’s really cute and the owners are very nice. We got set up and then went out for a walk at a pretty park full of interesting pieces of art. Most of them are made out of metal, there are several ponds there as well. We went off the beaten path on a trail in the woods for about a mile.

When the trail rejoined with the concrete path I noticed Steve had some things on his pants. Well those things were ticks and as we looked over each other we noted that we were covered in them! We stripped off our socks and shoes and shook out our pants and shirts as best as we could to rid ourselves of them.

In Arizona we have not had to deal with ticks, so it was very disturbing to have them all over us. Once we couldn’t find any more we finished up our walk and came back to Airy. We took off our clothing and Steve had a couple more ticks crawling on him! We showered and laundered our clothing.

This made us think maybe hiking isn’t the thing to be doing here?!?!?

On Wednesday and Thursday we went to a State Park in Illinois that was about 1 1/2 hours away. We stayed there and ventured into St. Louis.

We went up in the arch that is the Gateway to the West.

We visited “The Hill” which was full of lovely Italian restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops. We enjoyed some amazing food and celebrated our 31 years of marriage.

On our way back to our campground we went through Hannibal, MO and visited the Mark Twain cave. It’s the cave referenced in his book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and we really enjoyed it. Our tour guide’s name was Jaxon and he was so much fun!

Thursday night we took a walk down the road the campground is by and don’t you know we encountered ticks again and had to shower and laundry our clothing.

Friday we decided if hiking wasn’t going to be our thing here (because of the ticks) we would join the YMCA.

So we drove over and signed up for the next two months. It seems pretty nice and Saturday morning we did a Yoga class there together. There are lots of machines to exercise on, weights for lifting, classes every evening and it has a pool.

So, that is our plan for moving!

There is a pie shop in town that we visited Friday and ordered Steve a pie for Father’s Day (since I have no oven to bake him one).

Saturday we picked it up, a beautiful cherry pie. Steve broke into it Saturday afternoon and said it’s pretty good!

I hope all the dad’s have a wonderful Father’s Day today!

Blessings to you!!
