Week Ten: Tucson, AZ

Hi Friends!

It’s hard to believe that it is the end of July.

Steve and I have one more month here in Tucson.  We have had lots of new experiences and enjoyed the plethora of things to do in the area.

This past weekend we decided that the crepes we had last weekend were so good we wanted to find another cafe that had some.  We landed on Ghini’s Cafe, a little French cafe with amazing coffee and breakfasts.  I had some strawberry crepes that were outstanding.  Steve ventured off into a full on French breakfast with some amazing looking eggs that I can’t pronounce, potatoes, and bread.

After our relaxing breakfast we tried out a hike called Tanque Verde Falls.

We drove on a dirt road up a portion of a mountain to the trailhead.  We hiked down about 1/2 a mile into a canyon.  The trail wasn’t to bad, just steep.  I was thinking, “Ok, I got this…this is the worst and then we are to the trail by the river…no problem.”

Boy was I wrong!

That was the easiest part of the hike!

The trail at the bottom was lots of boulder hopping and scrambling up steep rock faces.  I did my best and we made it to the second of four waterfalls.  I really wanted to continue on, but we came to a rock face that I just couldn’t conquer.

I haven’t ever hiked IN a stream before, so that was a new experience.

My shoes and socks got all wet, but I must say the Salomon shoes performed amazing wet.  My feet didn’t slip around and they worked under the water just as well as hiking on dry trails.

Check out some photos and a video of our hike HERE.

Steve and I made it out of the canyon and headed over to the Saguaro National Forest.

I am working on a desert book and needed some inspiration for the illustrations.  Besides, this was on my radar to visit and the day seemed perfect to do so.

It wasn’t too hot (only 96 degrees) and there were storms brewing all around.  We got out on the trail amongst the Saguaro’s for a bit and enjoyed watching the lighting in the distance.

Once we got back to Airy the rain let loose and we enjoyed a huge storm.  The sound of rain on the roof in the Airstream is super loud, and we had a few thunder claps that seemed right on top of us.

On Sunday Steve and I spent some time in reflection and prayer.

There are a lot of transitions we are in the middle of.

Our son Ben is heading to Flagstaff for college and will be securing an apartment and moving out.

Steve has 3 applications in for his next travel nurse assignment (Washington, Sun City AZ, and Utah).

We are in the process of making a decision on our home, whether to sell or rent it.

We will be back in Prescott the beginning of September for a couple of weeks to prepare the house for either of those things.

There is SO MUCH to be done!

So we have decided to make this a week of prayer and fasting together to seek God on all these things.

We then proceeded to do some work around Airy.

Steve got on the roof and checked on the air conditioner as we have been using it heavily.  Things looked fine, phew!

We had another rolling storm on Sunday and afterwards we noticed some dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom.  Yikes!  That is right were the air conditioner is located so Steve said maybe walking around up there loosed some caulking around the air vents.  So now we have another thing to check up on this week.

I read recently that full time RV living is just fixing things in beautiful places.  I guess we are finding some of that out!
