Sometimes you have to “embrace the suck” that life sends your way and move through it together.
“Embrace the suck” is something we first heard when our son became a Marine. It is a common phrase in the military that means to accept the difficult or unpleasant aspects of a situation and to deal with them head-on. It’s about facing your challenges and overcoming them, rather than trying to avoid them or pretending they don’t exist.
Life really does throw you some yuck sometimes. Sickness, death, betrayal, disappointment, disillusionment, bankruptcy, and other curve balls can come our way unexpectedly. There are curve balls that you don’t see coming at you and you will have to cling to each other during those times. It’s unavoidable.
When you are united you can withstand. Believing in each other is key, and putting our shoulders together to wade through the difficult times has helped us stay balanced and stay on the journey together.
Part of my marriage vows were that my prayers would be my spouse’s tower of strength, and I have endeavored to make that a reality in our lives. Steve too made a commitment to pray for me daily and I have sensed an inner strength that stems from that.
Believing in each other, praying for each other and working together is essential.
By facing challenges together, we can stay balanced and on the journey.
Chrissy,
Well said.
